Mesothelioma basically means growth of mesothelium, which is a layer of tissue from which pericardium, pleura and peritoneum all develop. Malignant mesothelioma is a type of cancer in which cancerous or malignant cells form thin layers of tissues around heart, abdomen and chest.
When it is in the chest, it adversely affects pleura and is called malignant pleural mesothelioma. This malignant Mesothelioma is considered as one of the most common types of mesothelioma. In abdomen, a rare cancer that causes tissue lining in the abdominal cavity and then slowly spreads to different body organs is called malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.
